Welcome to MOKA!

Welcome to MOKA, a non-profit organization that serves individuals with disabilities in western Michigan. We provide supports and services to assist individuals to become valued members of their communities. We offer treatment in specialized community based homes, training and support to live in your own home, skill building with the goal of employment, skill development and job placement, and family support of children with autism and other disabilities. We believe in gentle teaching and created a gentle culture to treat the individuals we serve with the greatest respect so they feel safe and affirmed.

“A home more like their own” was the original reason a group of concerned parents and citizens gathered around a kitchen table in 1978. Their passion became the groundwork for MOKA named for the original counties the families came from; Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent and Allegan. Today, as we have from the beginning, we rely on, or are interdependent on many individuals to fulfill our MOKA mission.  We ask the individuals we serve to do their best, request every parent and guardian to become engaged, require each employee to continually develop their talents, invite volunteers to share their precious time learning skills to support individuals in our homes and programs, solicit donors to give financially, and our partner agencies to collaborate.  Together we can continually live our mission that is MOKA.

The unique role MOKA plays in an individuals' life arises from our mission to "see the individual in everyone" and a determination to support individuals’ personal goals. Individuals captain their ship and we serve as their navigators. We invite you to join that journey. Whether you or a family member need services, or you choose to be involved as your family member receives services.  Maybe you are a job seeker or employer, desire to volunteer, want to make a financial gift, or advocate for the disabled, we'd like to communicate and build a relationship with you. Visit this website, learn more about MOKA and our services, join our on line community, add this website to your favorites list, or contact one of our staff.
